Big Snowfall Year, But CA Skier Visits down 12%

The article suggests even though this was a top 5 year for snowfall the resorts in California are reporting a 12% decline in skier visits. The main reason for the decline is the big storms took place.... at the wrong time(s). Most storms seemed to arrive just before or during weekend days. This made for difficult roads and miserable skiing and boarding experiences.

12.18.10 South Lake Tahoe Snow Storm

Stagecoach Lift Opened 12.3.10

The Stagecoach Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort was turning yesterday for the first time of the season. Usually, we do not see Stagecoach open for another 2-3 weeks, but the large amount of snow has helped open things earlier.

The Heavenly North area has the Stagecoach Lift and Lodge and the Boulder Lift and Lodge. I am not sure when the Boulder Lift will open for the 2010-2011 ski season, but I post when I see it turning.

First Snow of 2009-2010 Ski & Board Season

September 30, 2009

When does the first snow fall in Lake Tahoe?

First snow of the season fell last night. I understand it is not much, but it helps get you thinking about the upcoming season. I live at 7500 feet near the Stagecoach Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort in the Heavenly North area. We normally see more snow in this area than you would find at lake level.
