12.7.09 New Snow

New snow continues to fall in South Lake Tahoe. Here is a picture showing the amount of snow that has fallen today from the current storm.

As you can see the tape measure shows +/- 21 inches.

These pictures are taken from a unit located next to the Stageocach Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort at the 7000 foot elevation level. More storms are predicted for the rest of the week so skiing should really improve starting today.

3.4.09 3+++ Feet of New Snow Today

MAJOR STORM LAST NIGHT

Heavenly Mountain Resort had to open late this morning so they could dig the lifts out. I waited at Stagecoach with 200+ skiers and boarders this morning until they started loading the lift at 9:50am. It took at least an hour to track things out so you could get through the powder on any run that was not groomed. If the slope was not steep enough the 3+++ feet of powder brought you to a complete stop and you had to dig and hike out. As the day went on it got much easier to get down more runs as the powder got tracked out.

12.25.08 Found 3 Feet of Freshies Today

Started out on the Nevada Side of Heavenly on the Stagecoach Lift, but quickly jumped to the Comet Lift when the Ski Patrol pulled the rope. The Dipper Lift was closed today so we went to Comet. The Comet Lift had plenty of new snow and if you were daring you could find 3 feet of fresh stuff on the Little Dipper Run or in the trees off of the run. The weather was miserable, but perfect for the 20 or so people skiing and riding Comet all day. Enough snow was falling to fill tracks so fresh turns were available until closing.
