12.7.09 New Snow

New snow continues to fall in South Lake Tahoe. Here is a picture showing the amount of snow that has fallen today from the current storm.

As you can see the tape measure shows +/- 21 inches.

These pictures are taken from a unit located next to the Stageocach Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort at the 7000 foot elevation level. More storms are predicted for the rest of the week so skiing should really improve starting today.

3.4.09 3+++ Feet of New Snow Today

MAJOR STORM LAST NIGHT

Heavenly Mountain Resort had to open late this morning so they could dig the lifts out. I waited at Stagecoach with 200+ skiers and boarders this morning until they started loading the lift at 9:50am. It took at least an hour to track things out so you could get through the powder on any run that was not groomed. If the slope was not steep enough the 3+++ feet of powder brought you to a complete stop and you had to dig and hike out. As the day went on it got much easier to get down more runs as the powder got tracked out.

3.3.09 THE BEST POWDER DAY OF THE YEAR.... IN MARCH???

Woke up to 16 inches on my deck in the Heavenly North Area of South Lake Tahoe. Spent most of the day in the North Bowl Trees at Heavenly Mountain Resort where I found 24+++ inches of fresh powder. Mott Canyon opened around 12:30 pm today after a full morning of avalanche control with an easy 2+++ feet of powder. From the loud bangs I believe they were doing avalanche control all day in Killebrew Canyon.

Another 2 feet of powder with the storm arriving tonight/tomorrow. Should be a great week and weekend for skiing.

Finally, the ski season has arrived!!!

1.22.09 NEW SNOW FALLING RIGHT NOW

New snow has been falling all morning in the Heavenly North area. 2-3 inches at the Stagecoach Lift and Lodge right now with more on the way. In addition, we have snow predicted for the next 4 days. Finally, a chance to create fresh tracks at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Giant Snowman Picture

This giant Snowman is roughly 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide. It was built during the snow storms that hit South Lake Tahoe and Heavenly Mountain Resort in late December 2008. There were plenty of people who stopped along Kingsbury Grade on the way to Heavenly's Stagecoach and Boulder Lifts for a photo opportunity.

12.23.08 Another Winter Storm Arriving Tomorrow Into Christmas Day

Heavenly is reporting 12-18 inches of new snow, but I see 6-12 inches out my window at the Stagecoach Lift. It was snowing all day yesterday and continued after ski hours last night in the Heavenly North area of Heavenly Mountain Resort. Today should be a great day on the hill. Winds are not bad at this point and it looks like the sun is trying to come out.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday through Thursday of this week. Could bring 2 feet to the higher elevations.

12.22.08 Nevada Side Mountain Report

I spent a few hours on the Nevada side of Heavenly today. I skied Little Dipper, Comet and Stagecoach. Overall the runs had plenty of coverage, but things were very icy because of the recent storms. Still no chance of going off trail into the trees because many rocks are still showing. Looks like we will continue to get new snow all week and the snow making machines were blowing under the Olympic Chair today so maybe Heavenly will be opening that area up this coming weekend.
