Heavenly Mountain Resort opened Mott Canyon gates 4,5 and 6 today for the first time this ski season.

I received a call around 1pm today from a friend who just finished his first run down Mott on a snowboard. He was so pumped he was just screaming on the phone. I could not make out any particular language, but I did hear MOTT IS OPEN. I immediately dropped everything I was doing at home, grabbed my gear and ran to the Stagecoach Lift at Heavenly to work my way up and over to Mott Canyon. I will never be able to explain how great the snow was in Mott today. There was easily 4-5 feet of fresh, untracked powder and nobody around because it was midweek, snowing... and the Ski Patrol had just opened the gates.

You hope for at least one epic day per year like this and I was able to log it today! Luckily, the new snow today and tonight should make tomorrow even better.
